Facebook Zero LogoYesterday afternoon Facebook announced that the company is releasing a new mobile version of the site that enables free access to Facebook, even in countries where access would require data charges. It’s a major push by Facebook to expand what is already one of the fastest growing areas of their site: mobile access. 0.facebook.com is an imageless version of the site that will enable users to connect to Facebook from around the globe.

As Facebook highlights in yesterday’s blog post, 0.facebook.com is optimized for many countries where wireless internet access is not as reliable. Plans of the new service were leaded back in February, and pretty much there’s not much else new being revealed in today’s announcement aside from the carriers that are supporting the new service.

If you want to read more about 0.facebook.com, check out last night’s blog post.
