With the World Cup just weeks away, the world's biggest sports game publisher is teaming with one of the biggest casual gaming developers to bring the famous FIFA soccer series to Facebook.
While the company continues to create some of Facebook's most popular games, newly acquired EA developer Playfish hasn't been able to work with one of the publisher's many established licenses and IPs. That will change soon, as the $300 million developer will be making a Facebook-focused footy title called FIFA Superstars.
While no date has been set for the release of this social soccer game, Peter Moore's blog post announcing FIFA Superstars features quite a bit of chatter regarding the World Cup, which begins in a little over a month. EA Sports is currently also working on a browser-based soccer game called FIFA Online, currently in beta, which will include a World Cup mode as one of its features. It should be interesting to see if both soccer games are able to score before the whistle blows on the world's biggest tournament.
