Konami is developing Castlevania Puzzle: Encore of the Night for the iPhone, delivering the memorable characters and setting of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night in a peculiar puzzle package.

Taking a page from the playbook that turned Metal Gear Solid from a stealth game to a target-based shooter, Konami is bringing another one of its prized franchises to the iPhone in a far different format than expected. Earlier today, the company announced Castlevania Puzzle: Encore of the Night, a "puzzle-RPG" game that incorporates the characters and castle setting of the franchise's most well received game, Casstlevania: Symphony of the Night.

From the facts dropped by Konami into its announcement, Castlevania Puzzle: Encore of the Night will include some form of a quest mode. The primary mode seems to put you in the shoes of Symphony of the Night's hero, Alucard as he collects weapons and spells by defeating some of the game's most memorable enemies. Castlevania Puzzle will also allow you to play as some of Symphony's other characters, though it isn't made clear whether it's done via a versus mode or through unlockable Richter Belmont-style additional quests.

No release date has been specified, but Konami has promised it will land in the App Store "soon."
