The NPD results for April 2010 have been released, and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction debuted at number one with 486,000 units sold -- more than double the sales of its closest competitor. Sony's non-PS3 hardware had a rough month, as the PSP only mustered 65,000 units sold and the NPD stopped tracking PS2 sales.
While many of last month's NPD debuts --God of War III, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Pokemon -- managed to keep up their stellar sales, April's new releases didn't fare as well, as the Xbox 360-exclusive Conviction and the PlayStation 3 version of Super Street Fighter IV bookended the rankings. Here are the month of April's top ten software sellers:
1) Splinter Cell: Conviction
2) Pokemon SoulSilver
3) New Super Mario Bros. Wii
4) Pokemon HeartGold
5) God of War III
6) Wii Sports Resort
7) Battlefield: Bad Company 2(Xbox 360)
8) Wii Fit Plus
9) Just Dance
10) Super Street Fighter IV (PS3)
On the hardware front, Nintendo took the top spots, with the Xbox 360 narrowly outselling the PS3 by less than 5,000 units. Sony's other consoles fared even worse as the 65,000 PSP units sold were a third of its closest competor and not even within sniffing distance of the Nintendo DS's 440,800 take. The PS2 wasn't even listed this month, lending credence to the notion that the system's sales have finally petered out after a decade. Here are the console rankings for April 2010:
1) Nintendo DS
2) Nintendo Wii
3) Xbox 360
4) PlayStation 3
5) PlayStation Portable
