Michael Jackson became the most popular person on Facebook in July 2009, following his sudden death June 25 of that year. But will that help a pay-per-view concert in his honor convince people to shell out cash to watch it?

Michael Forever: The Tribute Concert will take place at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, October 8, with Jamie Foxx slated to host and scheduled performers including Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, The Black Eyed Peas, Jennifer Hudson, and Smokey Robinson.

Facebook commerce outfit Milyoni teamed up with Ridgeline Entertainment for the event.

Fans who wish to view it live can pay 40 Facebook Credits, or $3.99, prior to October 8, or 40 Facebook Credits, or $4.99, on the day of the show. PayPal is also being accepted.

Milyoni and Stageside Productions teamed up to present Widespread Panic's shows June 14 and 15 from Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater, with fans paying $5 for one night or $10 for both, with the option of viewing the shows through midnight June 19.

As for the late King of Pop, while he is certainly not forgotten — particularly with the ongoing trial of Dr. Conrad Murray on charges of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death –his reign atop Facebook was short-lived, as his page on the social network was overtaken by FarmVille in January 2010.

Readers, have you ever paid for a livestreamed concert or other content via Facebook, and if so, how did it compare with watching video content via a DVD or other media?
