GamePro's readers give their thoughts on the price drop of 3DS from $250 to $170, and what they think it means for Nintendo in the grand scheme of things.

Some life was injected into a slow news week with news of a massive price drop for the Nintendo 3DS, from $250 to $170, as of August 12th. Early adopters got some free DLC games, but not much less, while others think that it still doesn't solve the problem of the 3D's weak library of games. GamePro readers answered the Sound Off call with their own wide range of opinions and feedback:

From the positive:

@GamePro When I found out. I was like, I wasted 250! But when I found out I was gonna get 20 free games. I was like, "Bout time!"less than a minute ago via web -- Favorite -- Retweet -- ReplyShadic

@GamePro At least I'm getting 20 free games out of it! That helps soften the blow tremendously.less than a minute ago via web -- Favorite -- Retweet -- ReplyKyle Boyd

@GamePro The price cut can only mean Nintendo sincerely cares about it's consumers/fan base, and #3DS owners will have more games ASAP!less than a minute ago via web -- Favorite -- Retweet -- ReplyChristopher Majewski

Many pointed out that this was the likely step needed to combat the upcoming launch of the PlayStation Vita:

@GamePro They realized there is no "must have" games for the 3DS and need to undercut Sony before the Vita is released. Preemptive strike.less than a minute ago via TweetDeck -- Favorite -- Retweet -- ReplyAndy Breeding

@GamePro I think that it smacks of desperation from Nintendo. With Vita only round the corner, #3DS needs a fanbase...or Ninty lose out.less than a minute ago via web -- Favorite -- Retweet -- ReplyRyan Sandrey

@GamePro They just want to sell more before the Vita comes out so they can say, "We sold THIS much more than the Vita!"less than a minute ago via Twitter for iPhone -- Favorite -- Retweet -- ReplyDr. Atrocious

Some just said that they'd buy one anyway at the reduced price:

@GamePro I think I'm buying a 3DS for Christmas, that's what I think.less than a minute ago via web -- Favorite -- Retweet -- ReplyCorey Marinecz

And this week's Sound Off winner, Scott Nichols, with a solid assessment of Nintendo's effort to appease "3DS Ambassadors" who bought the system early at an inflated price:

@GamePro at least Nintendo is showing Sony how to do a proper apology promotion. 20 20-year-old games > 2 2-year-old games.less than a minute ago via Twitter for iPhone -- Favorite -- Retweet -- ReplyScott Nichols

GamePro's own staff is divided, like you, on how this affects our opinion of the Nintendo 3DS, and especially the affect it'll have later this year. Many of us simply can't take the eye strain from the 3DS. Maybe the price drop will sell more 3DS system in the crucial fall period, which Nintendo sorely needs, judging by their current dive in profits.
