"The Sacrifice" -- the dual-game DLC coming to both iterations of Left 4 Dead -- will allow players to see the events that took the life of one of the original survivors for $7 when the DLC releases next week.

Next Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 DLC coming October 5 for $7 on Xbox, free on PC/Mac

While there was interaction between the casts of the first two Left 4 Dead games, the first crossover DLC, "The Passing," provided little in the way of background behind the deceased original survivor. Next week's DLC, "The Sacrifice," will reveal the catastrophe that took the life of one of the first game's heroes, putting you back in the shoes of the original foursome.

Unlike the first two Left 4 Dead DLC packs published by Valve, "The Sacrifice" episode will be downloadable on both the first and second game, granting different bonuses based on the system you choose to add the content to. Owners of the original Left 4 Dead will get maps from the episode playable in Versus and Survival, while Left 4 Dead 2 downloaders will be able to play through the first game's "No Mercy" campaign gaining new maps from both episodes for Versus, Survival, and Scavenge modes with the second game's additional Special Infected, items, and weapons.

The DLC is due out on October 5 for the Xbox 360, PC, and Mac. The content will cost 560 Microsoft Points ($7) on Xbox 360, while the PC and Mac versions will be free. We've pinged our Valve representative to see whether the $7 allows you to add the content to both games or only one, and will update this story if we hear back. In the meantime, what are your thoughts on the DLC? If you plan on getting it, which platform and game will you be adding it to?
