The CW television series “The Vampire Diaries has already sunk its teeth into Facebook, with a page that has sucked in more than 8.9 million likes. The next target: Gamers' blood.

Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment flipped the switch on The Vampire Diaries: Get Sucked In, which transports players to the town of Mystic Falls, where they meet characters from the show and have to complete missions.

In addition to game-playing logic, knowledge of “The Vampire Diaries show is also a key asset, as trivia questions are sprinkled throughout The Vampire Diaries: Get Sucked In.

Players can use Facebook Credits to purchase items within the game, complete collections, open special prize chests, or unlock new areas.

This is Warner Brothers’ second Facebook game launch based on a television series within about a week, as the company just debuted The Big Bang Theory: Mystic Warlords of Ka’a.

And there’s good news for Facebook users: These vampires are safe, at least when it comes to cyber-security, as the Warner Brothers Home Entertainment Group division is legitimate and reputable, unlike the parties behind rogue Facebook game Twilight: Breaking Dawn, which was actually malware that distributed a scam link to users' friends lists after they clicked like to play the nonexistent game.

Game play will also be much more satisfying, and definitely quicker, than it was on the earliest blood-sucking game on Facebook, Vampires; its maker, Slide, announced in August that it was shutting down most of its applications.
