Invite all of your Facebook friends to a yard sale with JunkBox, a new app for the social network by way of Brazil and private technology venture incubator Athena Seeds.
Playing off the cliché, "One man's trash is another man's treasure," JunkBox offers Facebook users a way to buy, sell, trade, and barter their unwanted items. The idea is to potentially eliminate the waste created by disposed goods and generate a little cash in the process.
One advantage over eBay is that rather than competing against strangers, only Facebook friends can dig through the JunkBox for that eight-track player, Rubik's Cube, Asia concert T-shirt, or Atari 2600 game cartridge they've been looking for. And when dealing with friends, the transaction has to be smooth and hassle-free, right? “The People's Court” comes to mind.
The Facebook page introducing the JunkBox app says:
