The developer of the Friendly for Facebook iPad application reported it was downloaded more than 1 million times over the holiday season.

In early December, the developer Oecoway, made the app free—previously it had cost $.99. In their press release though, they credit the booming Holiday sales of the iPad, not this recent price drop, for the catalyst behind the monster downloads.

“Going into this holiday season, we were excited about the demand consumers would have for Apple’s iPad as one of the must-have gifts on many people’s wish list,” said Stephane Philipakis, Co-founder and President of Oecoway in a press release.

Friendly for Facebook is consistently ranked at the top of iTunes charts both as a free and paid social networking iPad app.

We’re still wondering when Facebook is going to build an official version of the app. Most of the coverage so far has centered around Mark Zuckerberg’s response that the that iPad is “not a mobile device” in answering a question at Facebook’s mobile press event in November.

When we talked to Facebook’s CTO, Bret Taylor about the issue, he told us that one of the primary reasons that the application hasn’t been launched yet is that there are so many mobile devices and the site is perfectly functional as it exists within Safari on the iPad.

We looked around to see if there were any more Facebook apps for the iPad that may be announced at CES this week, but couldn’t find any new info.

Do you use the Friendly for Facebook app? Do you Facebook, or at the very least, competitors could profit from developing a better app?
