Make a new friend on Facebook after you both attend the same activity, you may notice a new activity feed story that links the event and friendship together.
The story format appears when two people who RSVP’d “yes” to the same event become friends shortly after the event. We’re not sure how much of a time lag Facebook allots between the event’s end and the friendship confirmation for this to appear.
This change comes a few weeks after another change to the comment feed you might have noticed since mid-December: Small excerpts of conversations appear in quotes.
Facebook began a push to emphasize the events feature in June by adding a wall publisher which enabled users to post directly from their profiles. The site also redesigned the events page in July. But besides that there hadn’t been other improvements to the events tab or application in awhile. Perhaps the newest change is a harbinger of things to come?
When looking at this new addition, I thought it seemed a bit far fetched. Many times I RSVP to events but don’t actually attend. Therefore, it may be a stretch for Facebook to assume two people met at a party, just because they both RSVPd for it.
That said, it may be interesting to see what parties people are attending and meeting at. The new function bridges the gap between the online world and real human interaction, so maybe it makes sense.

We got an email from a reader alerting us of this new “friends after Event” activity story.
This new story appears instead of the standard friendship activity alert when two users who RSVP’d “yes” to the same event become friends shortly after the event (we’re not sure how long of a window Facebook allots after the event ending and the friendship is confirmed for this to appear).
Other friends can “Like” or comment on the story just like you can with a normal friend announcement.
