Microsoft reported "exceptional" numbers this quarter in an earnings call earlier today, citing increases in Xbox 360 consoles sold as well as last month's release of Halo: Reach as attributing factors.

According to Microsoft, the Xbox 360 moved more units than any competing consoles this last quarter, with 2.8 million units sold resulting in a 36% increase in revenue.

Bungie's FPS epic Halo: Reach, which previously dominated the September NPDs, also saw impressive numbers, earning $350 million in revenue following its September 14 release.

Microsoft also noted the impending Stateside release of its Windows Phone 7, which saw smooth launches in both Asia and Europe this past quarter. The Windows Phone 7 is slated to launch in America this next quarter.

Microsoft concluded the call by declaring Kinect "the gift of the holiday season," noting high hopes for the peripheral's impending November 4 release.
