We don't often get old-school dungeon-crawlers these days, so it's exciting to see an indie team working on one. Here's the first gameplay trailer for Legend of Grimrock, a game in the style of Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder.

I'm excited about Legend of Grimrock. I understand if you haven't heard of it -- this old-school dungeon-crawler is an indie game that isn't getting much attention from anyone besides fans of, well, old-school dungeon crawls.

The spellcasting is especially cool for fans of 1987's Dungeon Master -- in order to cast a spell such as fireball or poison cloud, you must enter the correct string of symbols. Looks like scrolls help you figure out the proper sequence of runs.

Behold the menancing Tunnel Troll, one of the beasties that calls the dungeon home in Legend of Grimrock.

The monsters also look pretty cool. How many games these days make giant snails into a deadly threat? Publisher/developer Almost Human has released a look at another monster in the game, the Tunnel Troll, a creature I certainly look forward to slaying once the game comes out this fall (as the developers told me a few weeks ago).

Does this celebration of old-school dungeon-crawling have you intrigued? Or is the game and its systems just too outdated for you?
