With Hurricane Irene taking aim at the Eastern Seaboard of the United States, the American Red Cross posted a photo album on its Facebook page, illustrating how residents in the soon-to-be-affected area are preparing for the storm, while the Global Disaster Relief on Facebook page continued to provide updates.

Among the updates posted on the Global Disaster Relief on Facebook page:

  • The Federal Bureau of Investigation issued an alert about fraudulent emails and websites claiming to be collecting donations for Hurricane Irene relief efforts.
  • The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Weather Service National Hurricane Center continued to update the progress of the storm.
  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency offered an explanation of severe weather terminology.
  • Officials including New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell urged caution and provided details on where citizens in their respective areas can turn for information and assistance.

As for the American Red Cross, it continued to provide updates on shelter facilities and other Irene-related matters on its wall, and the photo album mentioned above displayed people preparing for the storm by purchasing supplies and boarding up windows.
