Here's a round-up of everything EA showed off during its press conference at E3 today. Battlefield 3 was, unsurprisingly, the star of the show.

E3: EA's Press Conference: The Round-Up

EA was second up on the press conference stage this E3, with a number of impressive titles on show. Here's a summary of everything they showed:

  • Mass Effect 3 -- Looking spectacular, as you might expect. The gameplay we saw was very combat-heavy, with Shepard manning a mounted gun against a gigantic Reaper robot. We also caught glimpses of Joker, Legion and Mordin. Casey Hudson says that decisions made throughout the whole series will impact the course that Mass Effect 3's story will take and will help make it the most emotionally-impacting entry in the franchise to date.
  • Need for Speed: The Run -- Developed by Black Box, The Run features an illegal street race from one side of the US to the other. It incorporates the popular Autolog feature from Hot Pursuit, but also includes QTE-driven on-foot chase sequences that looked decidedly 24-ish.
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic -- We still haven't seen much in the way of gameplay, but those cinematic trailers sure look great.
  • SSX -- The rebooted SSX looks ridiculous in a self-consciously "gritty" way, with lots of jumping onto and off of helicopters. The new game will feature three ways to play: "Race It, Trick It, Survive It."
  • FIFA -- FIFA 12 features a new "player impact" system allowing players to crash into each other and injure each other realistically. But the most interesting new feature was the Football Club, a "persistent presence" feature that allows players to fly the flag of their favorite soccer club and take on challenges based on headlines from the real-life world of soccer. There will be worldwide leaderboards for soccer fans to hang their hat on their favorite club and compete against their worldwide rivals.
  • Madden 12 -- This is a game that exists, that EA managed to tell us almost precisely nothing about.
  • The Sims Social -- EA took a dig at Farmville and followed up with The Sims Social, which looks simply terrible -- although the game's use of your Facebook news feed to inform the stories of your Sims' relationships is a potentially nice idea.
  • Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning -- This is looking OK. A distinctly WoW/Rift-inspired art style covers a standard-looking fantasy action game. Kat reckons it's got a long way to go to compete with titles such as Demon's Souls.
  • Overstrike -- Also known as Clichstrike, and features the protagonist with the most prominent chin we've ever seen since Ben from Full Throttle. Insomniac's trademark tongue-in-cheek humor is likely to be in attendance, however, and the 4 player cooperative play has potential to be a lot of fun. Could this be the new Brute Force? Anyone remember that? No?
  • Battlefield 3 -- EA showed more footage from this than from any of the other games. We saw a live demo of a tank-based level featuring some spectacularly realistic graphics and gameplay including on-rails tank shooting as well as the ability to actually drive the tank and operate it from within. The release date of October 25 was also officially announced, and there will be a multiplayer beta this September.
  • Origin -- EA is pushing Origin.com as the main place to go to find out about EA games. Is EA attempting to rebrand entirely, or simply establish Origin as a high-profile gaming portal?

That's your lot. Ubisoft's press conference starts soon, so be sure to check in with us and see what they've got on offer.
