Valve's highly anticipated action-RTS will be unveiled to the public for the first time at this month's Gamescom trade show, and one lucky team will win $1,000,000 for playing it.

Valve's 'The International' Dota 2 Tournament Comes With a $1 Million Prize

Kicking off on August 17 and running through August 21, Valve's "The International" tournament will mark the first time that action-RTS follow-up Dota 2 is playable to the public. "The public" meaning people that happen to be in Cologne, Germany later this month for Gamescom, so maybe buy a plane ticket or stowaway on a German fishing boat, or something?

The tournament will see sixteen "elite" teams from around the globe competing through a "group stage, double elimination playoff format" up until the show's final day, where the winning team will fly home with a $1,000,000 prize -- a staggering number that's making me seriously reconsider my career choices, right now.

"The International is the first public Dota 2 event and will give the tens of millions of gamers playing Dota around the world their first look at the new game," said Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve, on the official Dota 2 blog. "I have had the good fortune to watch the competitors as they prepare for the tournament, and the level of play is extraordinary."

So be sure to check it out, as the tourney will be broadcast free of charge on the 'net, and in four languages (Chinese, German, Russian, and English) later this month.
