Not that it was ever in doubt, but EA's rolling in the money this year. And with Mass Effect 3 on the horizon, they're just going to get richer.
Electronic Arts has been on a roll, shipping the highly successful and well reviewed Portal 2 this year, along with other heavy hitters like Crysis 2 and FIFA 11. Even Dragon Age II and Dead Space 2 continue to sell at a nice clip, with also-rans like Shadows of the Damned and Alice: Madness Returns chipping in their two cents. EA today reported that profits are on track to even out around $4 billion this year.
Paraphrased from GameSpot, the breakdown:
- Portal 2 = 3 million copies sold to date, with 1 million copies via Steam
- Crysis 2 = 3 million copies shipped to date
- FIFA 11 = 15 million copies sold to date, including mobile
- versions and downloads
- Dragon Age II = 2 million copies sold to date
- Dead Space 2 = 2 million copies sold to date
- Battlefield: Bad Company 2 = 9 million shipped to date
- Digital revenue = $209 million in sales this quarter
- Console digital market growth = 91% increase from last year
- First fiscal quarter revenue = $999 million
Any bets on how much Mass Effect 3 is going to sell? I'm predicting at least 100 billion dollars.
