The early numbers are in for StarCraft 2's launch, and it looks like Activision Blizzard has another hit on its hands as the million units sold on the first day and the additional half-million the next day have made the title the top selling PC game of the year and the fastest-selling strategy game ever.
The game notched the high sales figures across North America, Europre, and a handful of other countries including South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. The game launched across all the aforementioned territories on July 27, with over 8000 stores hosting midnight launches.
Activision Blizzard deduced the sales figures through "internal company records, public data, and/or reports from key distribution partners," which may include digital distributors who are not part of the retail-focused NPD sales numbers. The NPD results for each month are typically released in the middle of the following month.
Have you purchased StarCraft II yet? Do you think the game's success shows any sign of slowing down?
