Accident-prone PlayStation owners take note: Sony is now offering the PlayStation Protection Plan -- an optional extension on the PS3 and PSP's standard manufacturer's warranty -- for sale directly from the PlayStation Network.
The PlayStation Protection Plan is a relatively new service from Sony, said to extend the standard PS3 and PSP warranties for 12 to 24 months, and offer up a host of helpful support features, including access to PlayStation Support specialists and, if the situation calls for it, a pre-paid shipping box for broken consoles or handhelds.
A one-year PlayStation Protection Plan is set to go for $44.99, where a two-year Protection Plan will run gamers $59.99. However, console owners that've sprung for Sony's PlayStation Plus premium service will see a significant discount, with Plus members getting the two-year plan at $44.99 -- the price of a standard one-year Protection Plan.
According to Sony, to qualify for a PlayStation Protection Plan, you must still be within the first year of your originally issued PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable manufacturer's warranty.
