-Face Detection Feature-For the past couple weeks we’ve received numerous inquiries from users who were surprised by Facebook’s new facial recognition system which suggests users tag friends. The feature has brought about a number of complaints, the most frequent of which was that the user didn’t want to be tagged in the photo in the first place. However now that the image is shown without any context (just a screenshot of the user’s face), the likelihood that the user gets tagged increases.

There’s no doubt that this new feature has had a positive impact on site engagement, however many users simply aren’t enjoying the feature. We also have plenty of users who are still just noticing the tag suggestions now, as it wasn’t previously visible to them. While I understand the point of the feature, there are plenty of times where a friend doesn’t want to be tagged in a given photo. This feature however does not distinguish between one photo and another.

Have you noticed this new feature? Are you a fan of it? Have you had any friends get mad at you for tagging them in a photo that they didn’t want to be tagged in?
