It's time once again to talk about the future of JRPGs, as Kat is joined by 1UP's Ryan Winterhalter and contributor Rowan Kaiser to talk about the end (?) of the "golden era of JRPGs." Bonus: Final Fantasy X and Phantasy Star II!
It's been a busy week for RPG chatter!
Earlier this week, I asked whether Final Fantasy X was the last of the Old Square or the first of the new; while 1UP's Ryan Winterhalter opined that the "Golden Era" of Japanese RPGs is over. And, of course, we finally kicked off our RPG Pillars project. Good stuff!
So as I already mentioned, we're officially weekly now, and we don't seem to have any shortage of content. Ryan drops by to chat about his JRPG piece; contributor Rowan Kaiser walks us through the significance of Phantasy Star II; and we all stop to remember Final Fantasy X (which debuted in Japanese ten years ago this week).
The RPG Pillars Project will continue next week with...well, it's a secret for now. But rest assured, it'll be a great discussion.
