This Thursday's Virtual Console update includes a fan favorite that younger gamers know by a different name entirely: Final Fantasy III. While it's now referred to by its proper name of Final Fantasy VI (since we've gotten official English releases of all the games in between) I still think of this as the third and final Final Fantasy on the SNES.

It frequently tops the lists of greatest games of all time, and is definitely one of the best 16-bit RPGs ever, so if you haven't played one of its more recent incarnations on Game Boy Advance or PlayStation, there's no better time than now to pick it up.

Also included in Nintendo's download update (this time for 3DS): Kirby's Dream Land. There aren't many Game Boy games that hold up to today's portable gaming standards, but you can't go wrong with Kirby's debut. The white puffball (check out the art at the top of your screen when you purchase it) can't steal his enemy powers yet, and probably easier than you remember, but it's nevertheless a great start to what's become a lasting Nintendo franchise.
