No big plans for the Fourth of July? No worries! Learn more about some of the nation’s largest Independence Day celebrations on Facebook.

A Capitol Fourth

The PBS program from the Capitol grounds in Washington, D.C. is a perennial favorite and features host Jimmy Smits and the National Symphony Orchestra. The page on Facebook features lots of good background information on this year’s guests — including  Steve Martin, Mark Ballas and Chelsie Hightower — as well as information about where to watch the show in high definition on local affiliate stations or livestreamed from the network’s website.

Macy’s 35th Annual

Lots of pages are dedicated to the big fireworks displays and the Macy’s show over the Big Apple — this Facebook page gives details on where to find video footage from your computer.  Macy’s also has a Facebook note with the scoop on this year’s extravaganza, which features Katy Perry and Jennifer Hudson. It’s never too late to plan for 2012 – sign up here to win tickets to next year’s show, and share pictures if you’re lucky enough to watch the fireworks from New York.

Boston Pops Spectacular

It wouldn’t be July Fourth without the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular airing live on CBS. Martina McBride hosts this year’s show, according to the program’s Facebook page. Get the scoop on what goes on behind-the-scenes, learn where to watch the show online, and read interviews with the performers via the program’s page on the social network.

Bristol, Rhode Island Parade

Check out the historical details of the nation’s oldest 4th of July parade that was started in 1785.  The Patch page on Facebook features great photos and details on all of the seaside town’s Independence Day festivities, including the annual ball.

St. Louis Fair

The St. Louis Fair, started in 1981, has one of the largest Independence Day page likes on Facebook numbering 4,800. “Where America Comes to Celebrate: Live on the Levee” is featuring the musical groups the Steve Miller Band and Maroon 5 on the banks of the Mississippi under the Arch.  Besides performance details over the weekend, the page has some fun video posted from the practice sessions taking place this week, including video of the Air Show performers taking their practice runs.

Freedom Over Texas

Texas always does it big, and this Houston-based Fourth of July event is among the biggest fireworks displays in the U.S. Featuring national live acts, like Jack Ingram and Chris Young, you can find out which of your friends are attending and more from their Facebook page.

Elsewhere

No other holiday brings out Americana quite like the fourth of July. Searching on Facebook led us to some not-so-big events around the country, but are very strong in spirit. Check out the Hot Rock’n Fourth in Northern Utah, West Virginia’s Ripley Fourth of July Celebration, known as the largest small-town 4th of July celebration in the U.S., and Minnesota’s Delano Fourth, the oldest and largest celebration in the state.
