Heiliger wouldn’t divulge any concrete plans for his next move during an interview with Om Malik. Whenever we see a highly accomplished Facebook executive claim not to have another gig lined up upon leaving the company, we tend to wonder whether said party actually has formed a startup in stealth mode.
Since joining the company in 2007, Heiliger witnessed it grow to 20 times in size, and he led it from leasing data centers to running wholly-owned ones.
Malik quotes Heiliger’s reflections on his accomplishments at Facebook:
We have gone through a few close calls to significant disasters.. There were times when we were out of capacity with no more servers available… It was my fourth startup and frankly I didn’t think I had another startup in me… We eclipsed many goals and set new ones.
When he leaves, will hand over his duties to Jay Parikh, who joined the company from Ning two years ago and will this fall report to Mike Schroepfer, Facebook’s vice president of engineering.
