Word has it that Facebook may move its headquarters to the former campus of Sun Microsystems in Menlo Park, California.
Anonymous sources have told TechCrunch that Facebook is close to deciding whether to move to a location near the Bayfront Expressway, about six miles from the social network’s current digs in Palo Alto.
We’ve asked Facebook spokespeople to confirm whether any of the details in the TechCrunch story are correct. An unidentified spokesperson for the company told the blog:
We are exploring options for a long-term location to fit our growing business needs. We are in the due diligence phase on one potential site, but it would be premature to offer any specifics. We hope to have more to share in the near future once things have been finalized.
Facebook has occupied its current 150,000-square-foot headquarters for two years, and the company’s expansion rate has been rapid, so a relocation makes sense. The social network now employs 2,000, has many new positions open, has recently signed leases for larger offices in other cities.
If it turns out that Facebook isn’t planning to move to the former Sun Microsystems campus, where else might the social network be considering?
