Following a blog post and some digging by games blog Kotaku, the world learned today that Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune left developer/publisher Capcom. Must be "quit week" for the industry or something.
Inafune made a blog post announcing his departure last night. The gist of it is, he was unhappy in his role as Head of R&D Management Group, Consumer Games R&D Division and Contents Management Division. He said that a manager's role is to evaluate workers and speak "their dreams." The implication is that he doesn't feel like he can do that at Capcom, although no specifics are given in the blog post.
Capcom sent out the following statement to media outlets inquiring about Inafune's departure: "Mr. Inafune submitted his resignation on Tuesday October 19th. His resignation is effective from the end of November, but given outstanding vacation time he will leave the company at the end of October."
Going forward, Capcom still looks to release Mega Man Universe -- the 11th console Mega Man game in the franchise -- in 2011. Inafune's next move is less certain, but he said he's moving on to a new challenge. The last Mega Man game Inafune worked on directly in the role of Producer was Mega Man 10.
UPDATE (Dec. 1, 2010): Inafune has a new blog. No game announcements, yet, but blog Andriasang has a translation of the introductory post.
