We looked at our Raptr rankings today and noticed that Fable 3 clocked in at the top spot. Is Halo: Reach slipping or taking a temporary break?
For the month of October, Halo: Reach held the number one spot on video game social ranking system, Raptr, with World of Warcraft sitting in second. In the last week, however, Fable 3 shot up to #1, pushing Halo: Reach down to #3 and leaving WoW where it is on the list. Other rankings sites such as GameFly's Top 10 also chart Fable 3 at the top of their "hottest games" lists, trumping Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 and even Call of Duty: Black Ops in popularity.
The question is whether or not Fable 3's spike is a temporary trend. Sure, the role-playing game features a cooperative multiplayer mode, but Halo: Reach's staying power is in competitive multiplayer. That's how Reach managed to knock Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 out of its 10-month long streak as the most-played game by Raptr rankings -- according to the site, it "stole" more than 50 percent of MW2's playtime on Xbox Live. Unless Fable 3 gives up its spot before Black Ops hits shelves next week, it looks like Reach won't get a chance to break MW2's 10-month record.
Official Xbox Live rankings from Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb for the week relevant to Fable 3 are forthcoming. Read up on our Fable 3 review, our Halo: Reach review, and our Force Unleashed 2 review.
