After a recent discussion about privacy on Facebook, I discovered many of my friends choose not to include their full names on their profiles. Even more were curious how to do this. A few reasons for changing your name on Facebook could be for privacy reasons, a legal changing of your name, or you have been recently married. Changing your name on Facebook is easy, but many do not know the option is available. Check out below to learn how to change your name on the site.
It should be noted that with Facebook Pages, you do not have the ability to change their name. You unfortunately have to delete the page and start over. Also, the process does not work with nicknames. Your full name and nickname would be the only way to have that appear on your profile.
- Login to your Facebook account.
- Located on the top of the page, on the right side, you will see an “Account” box. When the drop down menu appears, click the “Account Settings” option.
- The first menu item should be “Name.” Click the “Change” button on the right side.
- Enter your new name choice, and hit the “Change Name” box.
Just a reminder; it may not instantly change your name as Facebook Servers can take up to 24 hours to update your new settings. Follow these basic steps and choose how much of your name, or your new name, to show in your Facebook profile.
