How much is too much for portable games? As retailer listings from Amazon's multiple world portals continues to trickle out, some prices are low, while others seem quite high.
As Gamescom 2011 approaches, any news about PlayStation Vita is being targeted with much scrutiny. After all, Sony has been tight-lipped about pricing on contest for the PSV. However, what's currently making the rounds is the speculation that PS Vita games will cost about $80 -- but is that really the case?
Andriasang reports that Amazon Japan has listed the PS Vita port of Disgaea 3 at 6,090 Yen, which rounds out to roughly $79.22 via current currency rates. What's interesting is that a cursory look at Amazon.com sees launch titles like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers, and Ruin posted at $39.99. So, what's the real price of PSP games?
With the PlayStation Vita currently priced at $299 and $249 for the 3G/Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi only models respectively, it's looking like Sony's new handheld system will be a high investment for gamers either way. Even $40 is seen as expensive for Nintendo 3DS games, and that's largely due to a new market where iPhone, iPad, and Android games sell for less than $5. Whether the Amazon prices for PSV games is a mere placeholder, we'll know soon enough.
And as a parting shot, in a world where people balk at paying more than a few bucks for mobile games like the Final Fantasy Tactics port, a difference of $40 can be huge.
