Quite a few folks think that this year's Call of Duty will be the best-selling game in the franchise yet. Here's the consensus that says Black Ops will be tops:

@GamePro With everything included but the kitchen sink (and there's still time), I think this will be the best COD game ever.less than a minute ago via webObsession88

@GamePro With so many high-profile games not coming out until Q1 2011 & a Wii version of BO coming out day and date, it may just beat MW2.less than a minute ago via webg. egret

On the other side of the coin, a few GamePro Twitter followers seem to think that Modern Warfare 2 will still reign supreme in some fashion. Here are the folks that think Activision won't top itself in 2010.

@GamePro I don't think Black Ops will top MW2's perfect multiplayer. It can't be done.less than a minute ago via Twitter for iPhonegeeklisted

@GamePro it could be the best game, but too many people will hold the IW situation against it and it will not get the recognition it earnsless than a minute ago via Twitter for iPhoneblake kremin

While Black Ops is riding a strong wave of pre-release positivity right now, beating Modern Warfare 2 will be no easy feat. Infinity Ward's franchise does have more name recognition, and Black Ops' less focused timeline might not draw in as many fans looking for the most up-to-date guns and action set-pieces. Additionally, the presence of Medal of Honor could cut into Activision's sales in a way that no previous competing shooter has ever before. It'll be months before we ultimately know which shooter "won," but it'll be fun to see which game has a stronger launch.
