Good news for page administrators: In the week following the changes likes have increased 18 percent for Facebook pages after the site changed the news feed.

Comments have risen 17 percent, leading EdgeRank Checker to surmise that the news feed is so far producing the desired increase in engagement.

The flip side of this is that the average page has had a 33 percent drop in views per post.

This would be bad news if it weren’t for the fact that engagement has increased by at least 35 percent, based on the likes and comments. Call it quality over quantity.

Further evidence of quality over quantity: users are resharing more content, especially individual photos, according to our sibling blog Inside Facebook.

Users are cluing into the fact that they can customize what they see in the news feed by interacting with their preferred content.

People are seeing fewer posts from pages, but the ones that do show up in the feed are more targeted than ever.

However, these patterns are really a set of initial results. In the coming weeks and months, users, page administrators and developers will all get accustomed to the news feed and new trends might emerge as a result.

Readers, what do you make of EdgeRank Checker’s findings?

In strange and disappointing video game-related news, a rather heated session of Call of Duty: Black Ops leads to an assault charge against a middle-aged father of three.

Enraged Man Chokes 13-Year-Old Neighbor Over Call of Duty, Trash Talking

Most people who trash talk while playing online video games do so because they'll face no consequences for anything they say (most of the time). That wasn't the case for a 13-year-old gamer in Plymouth, Devon (England), who found himself being choked by a 43-year-old man who lived in the neighborhood after a heated exchange in Call Of Duty: Black Ops. Mark Bradford, 46, apparently "just lost it" after a long session of taunting and goading, as he tracked down the unnamed teenager at his friend's house, choking him from behind.

Luckily, the teen was rescued by his mother and suffered only scratches and bruises, as Bradford simply walked away after the brief attack:

Plymouth Magistrates heard that Bradford then simply walked away without saying a word. The boy, who cannot be identified, said: 'I was just sat playing. We'd had a bit of a joke and then he stormed in and grabbed me. 'I didn't know what was going on.' Gareth Warden, prosecuting, said the teenager was playing the game at a friend's house when he called Bradford a name after he 'killed' him. He added that Bradford went to a nearby house where the boy was playing, walked into the front room and grabbed him around the throat with both hands.

Bradford admitted one count of assault when charged by the Plymouth Magistrate's Court. As no surprise, he's been noted to have a history of mental health issues. Oddly, Bradford and the boy reportedly still play Call of Duty together, having apologized to him and his mother.

CBS comedy “The Big Bang Theory and its geeky cast of characters strike a chord with many people, as the show's fan page boasts more than 16 million likes, so why did it take so long for the debut of a Facebook game based on the series?

In any event, Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment introduced The Big Bang Theory: Mystic Warlords of Ka’a, a game on the social network, based on a card game favored by the characters on the show.

The game debuted in preview beta mode July 21, and it currently totals more than 60,000 monthly active users.

There are two game modes:

  • Duel Mode, for players who prefer quick and easy games, and
  • Battle Mode, which delves into the more strategic elements of the game.

Users can play with and against “Big Bang Theory characters, challenge friends, and collect and trade cards.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment senior vice president of production and development Samantha Ryan said:

Facebook is the ideal gaming platform to launch a fun, social game based on the enormously popular “The Big Bang Theory franchise, with its huge built-in fan base. We worked closely with Warner Bros. Television to create an authentic Mystic Warlords of Ka'a game experience where fans can play for a just a few minutes or dive in deeper for more strategic challenges with friends.

Warner Brothers Television Group Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Gregorian added:

We're truly excited to bring viewers of “The Big Bang Theory” the total immersive experience that is the Mystic Warlords of Ka'a game. With more than 16 million likes on Facebook, the show is a social media phenomenon, and the game lets fans interact with their favorite characters — Leonard, Penny, Howard, Raj, and, eventually, Sheldon — at any time, enriching their social experience.

Readers: Are you ready for a few hands of Ka'a?
